How long do you swell after a hair transplant?

Hair transplant swelling usually appears in the first few days, most often two to six days after the procedure, and in most patients settles within about a week. It moves downward with gravity, forehead first, then around the eyes. Anything still obvious after about a week is worth a photo to the team.

How do you reduce swelling after a hair transplant?

The three highest-impact steps for hair transplant swelling are sleeping on your back at a 45-degree angle on two pillows, applying cold compresses to the forehead rather than the transplanted area, and drinking two to three liters of water a day. Avoid salt, alcohol, heat, and bending forward while it settles.

Is hair transplant swelling dangerous?

Mild swelling on the forehead or around the eyes in the first few days is normal and not dangerous. It becomes a reason to call when it pairs with a fever at or above 38°C, pus or odor, spreading bruising, full eyelid closure, or pain that keeps increasing after day three.

Why are my eyes swollen after a hair transplant?

The fluid injected into the scalp during surgery drifts downward with gravity over the first day or two, from the forehead into the eye area. That migration, not anything wrong with the grafts, is why the eyes can look puffy even though the work was done higher up.

Can you dislodge grafts after 10 days?

Dislodging grafts after 10 days is very unlikely, because the grafts become essentially secure in the scalp by around day nine to ten, so normal gentle handling after the ten-day mark will not knock them loose. Keep following your clinic's washing guidance, and treat the area gently while any residual hair transplant swelling continues to fade.

What are the signs of a failed hair transplant?

Signs of a failed hair transplant are typically poor or patchy density many months out, persistent inflammation, or no regrowth by the expected window. These warrant a medical review rather than self-diagnosis, so send your photos and let the team assess your progress against the normal recovery timeline.
