Shampoos

-   When a person uses a particular shampoo for a long time, the hair can become saturated with the ingredients of that product.

The hair seems less affected by continued use of the shampoo.

Hair that once felt remarkably soft and silky after using with that shampoo may not have any afect anymore. So is good to change shampoo from time to time, you can always return to your old shampoo later.

-   You don’t need a clarifying shampoo unless you use a lot of styling products

Conditioner

-         They are generally used as often as needed to give the benefit desired.

-         In the case of heavily damaged hair, the deep conditioning treatments may be used as often as every two-to-three days, while maintenance of healthy hair can usually be achieved by monthly deep conditioning.

Ø     TYPES OF CONDITIONERS:

·        Rinse-through conditioners

They are applied to the newly shampooed hair and left in place for 2-3 minutes before being rinsed away. Purpose is to replace any moisture lost

·        Leave-on conditioners

Conditioners that are left on the hair and are NOT rinsed away. These conditioners are designed to be absorbed by the hair

They offer the benefit of being able to target the portions of the hair that need the most extra conditioning/protection – the ends of the hair, the top of the head only

·        De-tangling sprays and serums

They are leave-in conditioners or light oils that smooth the cuticle layer of the hair and allow it to be more easily combed. These products are used on damp hair after the hair is towel-dried to protect it from breakage while being combed. They are especially useful when dealing with very curly or coarse hair.

Hair spray

Hair sprays are versatile, in that they can be used to create styles or to give a final set to a finished style. Because the hair sprays will leave a residue on the hair  you may experience product build-up with repeated use.

Gels, Lotions, Mousse

These products are used in a wide range of styling, from blowing the hair straight, to wet roller sets.

The foam products are the lightest of the styling products and make for voluminous, soft styles. Mousses are great for blow-dry styling because they can help create lasting styles without stiffness.

The liquids, often referred to as setting lotions, are great for use with roller sets and for blow-dryer styling when a stronger hold is wanted.

Styling gels are especially good for hair that is hard to manage and styles that need the most hold possible.

Shine products

They add weight to the hair, hair looks silky, shiny.

They are excellent for masking the appearance of damaged and dry hair.

You should use caution when using shine enhancers in combination with heat styling appliances such as curling irons or flat irons. The presence of oil on the hair can literally result in cooking the hair when a hot iron is put in contact with it.
