DAMAGED HAIR
Signs that you have dameged hair:
- Rough Texture
- Overly Porous
- Dry to the Touch
- No Elasticity
- Becomes Spongy and Matted when Wet
- Color Fades or Absorbs too Rapidly
Reasons for dameged and dry hair:
- blow-drying
- harsh shampoo and conditioner
- wind
- all heat styling methods
- can be inherited from birth although this isn’t recognizable from infancy
- reason for dryness can be foiling,
- tinting
- bleaching
- perming hair that robs the natural moisture from the hair.
When hair is damaged it’s important to use a good, moisture-rich conditioning treatment every week until it shows improvement.
Unless your hair shows lots of broken ends and significantly shorter hairs than you noted before, you may not be aware that there is a real problem. The best clue to poor elasticity could be sitting in your hairbrush. If you have a lot of hair caught in your hairbrush, you can be reasonably sure that you have a problem with hair breakage.
The best treatment in this case is a protein rich conditioner or weekly protein treatment, which will add strength.
TIP:
Avoid clear shampoos and go straight for the creamy ones. These smooth, detangle and diffuse static.
Conditioners: Again, moisturizing is key. You’ll want to look for an ultra-moisturizing conditioner.
